How does Laser hair removal work?

Alexandrite 755nm laser emits burst of energy which is absorbed by the melanin (colour) of the hair. The laser will cauterise the blood supply at the root of the hair, effectively destroying the hair without affecting the surrounding area. Laser hair removal works best on pale skin with dark coarse hair.

Does Laser hair removal hurt?

Accepted Answer

Laser hair removal is described as heat with a sting to the tail. The Candela Gentlelase pro has a Dynamic cooling device (DCD). This will make the treatment more comfortable and protect your skin. Cryogen is sprayed onto the skin before every pulse of the Laser.

Who is suitable for Laser?

The ideal candidate for laser hair removal has fair skin and dark, coarse hair, as the laser is most effective when there is a strong contrast between the colour of the hair and the skin. 
Fine hair can still be treated; however, it is generally more difficult for the laser to target and may require additional sessions to achieve optimal results.
Laser hair removal is not effective on grey, white, blonde, or auburn/red hair, as these hair colours contain little to no melanin (pigment) for the laser to target.
For safety and insurance purposes, we are only able to treat clients aged 18 years and over.

Can I sunbathe or wear fake tan during my treatment course?

Unfortunately, you cannot have significant sun exposure for 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after your laser treatment. We also recommend avoiding fake tan for at least 2 weeks before your appointment to ensure it has completely faded from the treatment area.

Both hair and skin contain melanin, the pigment responsible for their colour. Laser hair removal works by targeting the melanin within the hair follicle. If the skin is tanned, whether from the sun or fake tan, the laser can be attracted to the excess pigment in the skin as well as the hair.

This increases the risk of adverse reactions, such as skin irritation, burns, blistering, pigmentation changes, and reduced treatment effectiveness. Tanned skin also makes it more difficult for the laser to safely and accurately target the hair follicle, which can compromise your results.

For the safest and most effective treatment, your skin should be as close to its natural, untanned colour as possible on the day of your appointment. Please ensure all fake tan has been completely removed from the treatment area before attending. If any tan is present, we may be unable to proceed with your treatment for safety reasons.
